Background: Most of the poems on this recording are set by Thomas Hardy, a poet with whom Gerald Finzi is inextricably linked. Extraordinarily the British tenor, James Gilchrist abandoned his career as a doctor for a full-time career in music only in 1996. He is in serious demand as a recitalist, in opera and is equally at home in contemporary music. |
