Background: Vernon Handley offers the finest modern account of Bliss's famous Colour Symphony. Its four movements, evoking the heraldic symbolism of four colours - purple, red, blue and green - gave the composer plenty of opportunity for nuanced instrumentation and bold orchestral effects, all brought out vividly in this, its first digital recording. |
