Background: Ave Maria, one of the few works he wrote to a Latin text, demonstrates Brahms's choral writing at its simplest. Schicksalslied is a setting of Hyperions Schicksalslied by German poet Holderin. Triumphlied was composed to celebrate the victories in the Franco-Prussian War. These works are comparatively rarely heard, making this disc an important release.
