Background: James MacMillan is one of Britain's most successful contemporary composers with a high international profile. This disc features the premiere performance of Into the Ferment which is based upon a poem by Robert Burns. Inpiration for the piano concerto The Berserking was a football match involving his team Glasgow Celtic.

Subversive humour, often in the background in The Berserking, leaps to the fore Britannia. The work soon develops into a crazy Ivesian collage of folk tunes, drinking songs and military band music.
