Background: Symphony No.27 was Myaskovsky’s last. The work is highly romantic, reminiscent of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, with rich, colourful orchestrations, striking melody and strong, contrasting rhythms. The Cello Concerto is powerfully atmospheric, hauntingly nostalgic, melodic and completely individual.
