Background: This historical recording of Prokofiev’s Story of a Real Man, the composer’s last completed opera, is presented on CD for the first time, in fully remastered sound. This authentic and dramatic performance is based on the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre production of 8-Oct-1960.

The opera, on the subject of the heroism of the World War II pilot Alexei Maresyev, is powerfully dramatic; but it is only recently that the full importance of the score has been recognised.
