Background: Alfie Boe's route into the classical world has been anything but conventional. Whilst doing his apprenticeship as a mechanic in the north of England Boe took the brave move of leaving his job and pursuing his dream. Moving to London to train as an opera singer he found himself at times without any money and without a roof over his head.

When Boe was at the ROH Young Artists Programme he was offered one of the leads in Baz Luhrmann's controversial Broadway production of La Bohème. He took a leap of faith with Luhrmann and was rewarded with a Tony Award for his performance.
