Background: The three composers represented on this recording were all born in 1685. Two of them, Bach and Handel, were natives of Germany and the other, Dominico Scarlatti, was born in Italy. Of the three, Bach alone remained in his native land. Handel made his career in England, where he is buried, and Scarlatti emigrated in early middle-age to Portugal and then moved to Spain. Bach and Scarlatti each founded a family; in the case of Bach, a musical dynasty.
