Background: Eduard Nápravník and Felix Blumenfeld were important figures in nineteenth-century Russian music. Nápravník worked with many of the most important composers of the day, including Tchaikovsky and 'The Five'; Blumenfeld is probably best known nowadays as the piano teacher of Vladimir Horowitz and Simon Barere.
