Background: Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform this important early work of Sibelius. Sibelius began work on what was to become Kullervo in 1891. He became dissatisfied with it and during the remainder of his lifetime, forbade further performances. It was his first large-scale orchestral work and his only symphonic work with voices.
