Background: This is a recording of Bruckner's 'Symphony No.3' performed by the Bavarian State Orchestra, conducted by Hans Knappertsbusch. This performance took place on the 11-Oct-1954 in the Congress Hall of the German Museum in Munich.

Hans Knappertsbusch was one of the conductors most loved by the Munich audience. He was forced to leave Munich in 1936 but returned after the Second World War and conducted many memorable concerts.

Bruckner substantially revised his third symphony after its disasterous premiere. The version usually heard today is the original version, but the performance on this disc is Bruckner's final version of 1888/89.
