Background: The music dates from Emanuel Bach's early maturity, a time when, besides fulfilling his duties at the court of Friedrich II, he was able to travel beyond Prussia for several months at a time. Miklós Spányi has chosen to perform the music on a magnificent clavichord built for him by Joris Potvlieghe. The instrument is an exact copy (down to the last inkstain!) of a clavichord by the famous instrument-builder Gottfried Horn of Dresden. The tone is particularly rich with a remarkably long reverberation. Heard on this splendid instrument, it comes as a surprise to realize that these pieces have lain unplayed and ignored for so long. |

- Penguin Guide 2/3 star 'these works suit the clavichord admirably, and Milkos Spanyi uses an appropriate modern copy of a 1785 Dresden instrument, which is recorded most successfully' |
