Background: On this his second disc of organ music by Sigfrid Karg-Elert, Hans Fagius treats us to some of the composers most interesting works. The Symphony in F-sharp minor, for instance, was composed in 1930 - only three years before the composers death - left lying in an archive and only rediscovered in 1984. According to Hans Fagius himself it is one of Karg-Elerts 'most engaging and colourful works'. Another highly coloured work on this CD is Cathedral Windows. To quote Fagius’s own liner notes, the composer here 'using an impressionistic style and bright, airy registrations, achieved a succession of atmospherically pregnant jewels – pleasant, elegant and often with a feeling of chamber music'. |
