Background: The eminent German conductor Eugen Jochum studied orchestral conducting and composition under Siegmund von Hausegger and Hermann von Waltershausen at the Munich Music Academy. The two Haydn symphonies were recorded in the studio by DG around the time of the live concerts but there is no denying that the performances presented here from the Royal Festival Hall have an extra vitality. The Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Weber is a new addition to Jochum's discography and is brilliantly played by the London Symphony Orchestra. All recordings are sourced from a private collector and are in excellent stereo sound. |
