Background: Jordi Savall offers an entirely new reading, full of freshness and colour, of the finest of Boccherini's works written during his long period of residence in Spain. The high point of this album is the well known Fandango, performed with rhythm and virtuosity.

The pieces selected for this recording show that Boccherini, not content with merely quoting the most popular forms of Spanish music, actually made that tradition his own. Moreover, he was unwilling for his Night Music of the Madrid Streets to be published outside Spain, arguing that only Spanish musicians would be able to do justice to the spirit and verve of this piece. It is therefore fitting that Jordi Savall, the most eminent of Spanish musicians, and his Concert des Nations, in full chamber orchestra format, should be entrusted with this tribute to the great composer.
