Background: This CD fearures the world première performance of Sir Arthur Bliss' Piano Concerto given in New York in Jun-1939. The event proved to be one of the highlights of the British contribution to the New York World Fair. As a testimony to Bliss' standing as a ballet composer, the programme concludes with excerpts from the rarely encountered Adam Zero. Conducted by Constant Lambert, the score's dedicatee, we have here almost half the ballet via a broadcast transmitted just weeks after the ballet's première in 1946. The composer considered this to be his 'most varied and exciting ballet score'. |
