Background: This DVD, produced by Martin Fraudreau, presents Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, a comédie-ballet by Lully and Molière, performed in Paris at the Théâtre du Trianon, and a 52-minute documentary entitled Les enfants de Lully et de Molière. The documentary follows the artists as they explore the Baroque world during rehearsals at Royaumont Abbey in spring and summer 2004, before the first performance at the Utrecht Festival. This production is a re-creation of the original work, as it was performed before Louis XIV, the Sun King, at Chambord by Lully and Molière. Le Poème Harmonique, an ensemble well known for the quality and originality of its work, and its director Vincent Dumestre, the choreographer Cécile Roussat and the stage director Benjamin Lazar pool their resources to revive this comédie-ballet, combining the different arts as was originally intended, and thus treating the viewer to an excitingly unusual musical experience. |
