Background: Born in Languedoc in 1599 Moulinié pusued his musical studies in Narbonne untilthe age of 20 when he moved to Paris to become Master of Music to Gaston d'Orléans brother of Louis X111. Here he remained surviving the political and familial intrigues of the era until Gaston's death in 1660 whereupon he returned to his native Languedoc. Composer of many high-quality works his music encompassing 'airs de cour' sacred music ballet drinking songs pieces for viol ensembles and vocal works set to French Italian Spanish and Occitan texts demonstrates an eclecticism which truly reflects the human condition of the period. |
