Background: Bach's solo Cello Suites are often said to be favourites for desert island castaways. The problem lies in deciding which version to choose. The Cello Suites are, for Marc Coppey, a genuine, timeless passion. Having won the first prize at the 1998 Leipzig Bach competition, Coppey has kept his passion alive and allowed it to mature.

The repeated experience of performing the complete Suites in concert, has had a profound effect on Coppey's playing and concentrated his relationship with the work, imbuing his recording with the wealth and depth of a definitive performance. Since 1995 he has been a member of the Quatuor Ysa˙e.
