Composer:
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach

Artist(s):
Ewald Demeyere

Background: Wilhelm Friedemann Bach eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach combined his father's polyphony with the sentimentalism of his time. He was not really understood by his contemporaries. The fact that his works blend light elegance with musical maturity is nowadays gaining him increasing acceptance. Ewald Demeyere studied harpsichord with Jos van Immerseel at the Koninklijk Vlaams Muziekconservatorium of Antwerp after which he went to Amsterdam to study with Gustav Leonhardt. Since 1994 he has been a member of La Petite Bande and plays regularly with Il Fondamento and has played chamber music with the Kuijken brothers, Paul Dombrecht and Frank Theuns. In 2000 he founded the ensemble De Profundis which intends to revive the central role of the keyboard instrument in the baroque ensemble.
