Background: Having left a signficant legacy to the classical music world with his legendary recordings, Otto Klemperer - one of the leading German conductors of his generation - now makes a posthumous contribution with this disc of his orchestral works. Including four world premiere recordings, this disc offers a rare opportunity to hear Klemperer's contribution to classical music in a different guise from that for which he is best known.

The two symphonies on this disc were composed in 1961 and 1967-68 respectively and are a melange of the contemporary with strong hints of Mahlerian influence. For example, the funeral opening of his First Symphony (Symphony in Two Movements) echoes that of Mahler's First.
