Background: The thirteenth of seventeen collaborations between Goldoni and Galuppi, this opera buffa receives its first recording by Baroque specialists, the Lautten Compagney. Premiered in Venice in 1755, this is an exemplary comic opera from the duo which was hugely popular across Europe and did much to increase the popularity of the genre. Characters in the work include a young loving couple, an old rich fool and his witty female servant, who interact to present many opportunities for comic effect.
