Background: David Lean considered several composers for Lawrence of Arabia, but once he'd met Maurice Jarre, he knew he need look no further. Jarre became his 'composer-in-residence' and stayed to the end. It was a remarkable relationship which led to 'Lara's Theme' from Doctor Zhivago and its enormous popular success.
