Background: 'Reminiscent of the young Yehudi Menuhin' Sir John Tavener. Nicola Benedetti is perhaps the greatest violinist of her generation. Winner of the BBC's Young Musician of the Year competition, this collection of works is her debut recording for the Deutsche Grammophon label. Nicola was four when she took up the violin. She cried throughout her first lesson but after that she never looked back, passing her grades relatively quickly and reaching the esteemed Menuhin School at aged 10. At the end of the first year, Nicola was chosen to be to perform at the School's annual Wigmore Hall concert, opening the programme - and still only ten years old. When she was eleven, she and a fellow pupil toured with the Lord Menuhin conducting. When concert offers and recital requests came flooding in Nicola decided to leave the Menuhin School, and a year later she won the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year title. |
