Background: Formed by the cunning expedient of adding her big band drummer to her 10 year old trio with Sheppard and Swallow, The Lost Chords is Carla Bley's new band - althoug its roots stretch way back into history. Bley and Swallow, now the grand old couple of modern jazz, have been collaborators for more than 40 years. English saxophonist Andy Sheppard, still one of jazz's younger voices, has been working with Steve Swallow since 1987, when the great bass guitarist produced Sheppard's first leader-date, later joining Carla Bley's large ensembles.
