Background: The possibilities of the harp developed substantially through the addition of chromatic strings, enabling the performance of complicated polyphonic works on the harp during the 16-th century. This CD presents a fascinating collection of Spanish keyboard works played on the harp, as well as 'Intabulations' (settings of songs, madrigals and other vocal works) of the well known composers working at the Spanish court. Played on a gorgeous double harp by Véronique Musson-Gonneaud, who specialized in this particular repertoire, vividly evoking the atmosphere of Spanish court life in the 16-th century. The included liner notes provide essential information on both repertoire and instrument. |
