Background: If you have ever endured a stuffy song cycle wishing that it would finally end, perhaps this is for you. For Stefan Winter as a child, it was certainly his experience and ever since he has wanted to use an untrained voice to take these songs back to melody and meaning.

The effect of not using a trained singer, and especially an actress, is to focus on the words in an unexpectedly moving arrangement of Schubert and Schumann's songs. They are sung by the acclaimed actresss Barbara Sukova, huge in Germany, who has appeared in Fassbinder's Lola, Lars von Trier's Europa and many stage productions.
