Background: The Piano Concerto was originally commissioned in 1991 to celebrate the 30th birthday of Diana, Princess of Wales. Best-known for writing the music and words for the animated film of The Snowman, Blake has also written many concert works. As well as the Piano Concerto, this album also includes his Diversions for Cello and Orchestra, and his Toccata, all performed by The Philharmonia. The composer himself performs the Piano Concerto.
