Background: The Basque composer and conductor Jesús Arámbarri wrote relatively few works in his lifetime, many of which are included on this disc. Drawing on his own experience as a conductor, he specialised in writing short orchestral pieces that were often inspired by his native folk-music.

He also wrote pieces as tributes to musical friends and masters, like his short piece, Ofrenda, dedicated to Falla, whose influence can also be discerned in the Eight Basque Songs. This cycle, taken from love songs and lullabies, is an excellent example of Arámbarri’s mature style.
