Background: Born and trained in Russia, the composer Alla Pavlova later settled in America. Her Symphony No.1 'Farewell Russia' for chamber orchestra, written in 1994, expresses her feelings about the Russia she knew, now changed beyond recognition.

Her Symphony No.3, written in 2000, is romantic in conception, with an immediate appeal to the listener. It was inspired by a New York monument to Joan of Arc.
