Background: This third volume of salon orchestral favourites focuses mainly on dance music and operetta from nineteenth and early twentieth century Vienna, Prague and Budapest, with a glance at the England of Queen Victoria and turn of the century Paris. Fuc¡ík’s best known work, the Florentine March, Komzák’s Storm Galop and Suppé’s Devil’s March are interspersed with colourful and melodic excerpts from Heuberger’s The Opera Ball and Oscar Straus’s A Waltz Dream, as well as short pieces in a more reflective, elegiac vein by Elgar, Massenet and Godard. |
