Background: In the second generation of Spanish nationalist composers, following the example of Albéniz and Granados, Turina was to accomplish a body of work that was rooted in formal traditions. The Sinfonía sevillana is Turina's orchestral masterpiece and the first important work of this kind to be produced in Spain in the twentieth century.
