Background: At 40 minutes duration, The Quest constitutes one of Walton's most substantial works. The plot is drawn from Spenser's allegorical poem The Faerie Queen, and, by presenting the conflict between good and evil, was intended to boost morale during the Second World War. This performance is the first to retain Walton's original orchestration as well as restoring the cuts the composer inisted on making. |
