Background: The Spanish poet Gerardo Diego aptly described Rodrigo as the composer of acoustic landscapes, his music evoking places, monuments and terrain. This Naxos release includes three highly typical but less well known orchestral works by Rodrigo. The most substantial is the 1953 Suite for Orchestra, Soleriana. Based on the 'Fandango' by Padre Antonio Soler, the work is divided into an introduction and seven differentias (variations); and, like Rodrigo's more familiar works, it is tremendously evocative of the atmosphere of Spain. |
