Background: Marcel Dupré became the most famous organist-composer of the twentieth century, with a substantial list of works to his credit. Equally gifted as a composer and as a performer, Dupré was a master of organ improvisation, in particular on the fine instrument at St Sulpice where he was employed as Widor’s successor. This recital includes an improvisation by Dupré on a theme of Leopold Stokowski, Zephyrs, reconstructed from a recording, as well as pieces showcasing several of the varied aspects of his work as a composer for the organ. |
