Background: Christopher Moulds is a young English conductor. He studied at the Royal College of Music and this was followd with work at ENO, Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House, as well as with LPO and RLPO. He is also an assistant of Sir Simon Rattle. Cappella Coloniensis this year celebrates it's fiftieth anniversary and have worked during that time with the likes of Bruno Weill, William Christie and countless others. This is a delightful recording of this little known 'festa teatrale' style, two act baroque opera. Composed in 1755, it uses librettos by Metastasio. The story is set around the Temple of Vesta in Rome at a time when the Roman Empire was beginning to crumble through decadence. |
