Background: The Alpine Symphony takes the listener on a mountain hike. Setting out at daybreak, we climb up wooded slopes, crossing alpine meadows and glaciers until we reach the summit. On the way back down, we are caught in a thunderstorm, and as the sun sets and dusk falls, the symphony comes to an end.

Tobias Melle brings these pictorial motifs from Richard Strauss' tone poem to life in his photographs of the Berchtesgarden Alps - looking at his photos, we see far more than a simple illustration: we experience a thrilling animation of the music.
