The explosion of nightlife during the nineties following the end of the Derg dictatorship subsided as a two year war with Eritrea took its economic toll (along with the free- spending Eritreans who frequented the clubs) and the Aids epidemic has had its effect on night-time fun seekers but the Azmari continue their tradition of Abyssinian minstelry, urging the audience to the dance floor with the cry 'Asguebba!'
