Artist(s):
Dexter Gordon

Background: One of bebop’s major exponents, tenor saxophonist and jazz great Dexter Gordon, having learned his lessons in the bands of Lionel Hampton, Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker back in the 1940s, became a key member of the Blue Note label in the decades that followed, recording landmark albums way into the 1960s. Although his career was subsequently marked by moments of silence, by the time he recorded American Classic for the Elektra Musicians label in 1982, he showed further proof of his later career’s sparkle.
