Background: These historic performances commemorate the violinist Joseph Szigeti’s friendships with three of the greatest composers of his time. He was the first great player to take up the Prokofiev Concerto No.1 while the Bloch Concerto was written specially for him. The Bartók piece is a reminder of the close collaboration Szigeti enjoyed with the composer, in both Europe and America. Szigeti included the first Portrait at his farewell concert in Budapest in 1939, with the composer present. |
