Background: Hausegger’s compositions encompass a great many vocal works including songs, two operas, the symphonic poems Barbarossa and Wieland der Schmied, and his main work, the massive Nature Symphony. Composed in 1911 for full orchestra the work includes a chorus set to text by Goethe. Hausegger is a composer of the early twentieth century who, like Felix Weingartner or Wilhelm Furtwängler, is remembered by posterity as an important conductor. He held the post as music director for the Philharmonic Orchestras of Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich and also in Edinburgh for the Scottish Orchestra. |
