Background: The Buckeburg concertmaster Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach has been recorded in the annals of music history as the Bach family's gentle musician. It would be incorrect, however, to think that his uneventful life went together with an insignificant oeuvre. His trios and sonatas are replete with melodic and experimental ideas and figures, and melodic structures of splendid balance and design are also encountered in these compositions. The selections from 1780 to 1785 heard here captivate the listener with the majestic splendour of their first movements, together with their finely nuanced thematic material. |
