Background: The five concertos and overture on this disc show a clear influence from Fasch's close friend Telemann. An admirer of the Baroque master, Fasch often self-admittedly imitated Telemann's style and as a result his works illustrate some of the musical ideals of the late Baroque. Fasch himself was music director at Anhalt-Zerbst court, and it was during his employment here that he composed the works on this disc, which include at times virtuosic writing for the bassoon.
