Background: Despite a Carnegie Hall premiere of his First Symphony while in his late twenties, American Gordon Sherwood remains relatively unknown. This is in part owing to his dislike of consumerism, a belief which lead him to live for twenty years travelling the world as a professional beggar. Because of his views he has been unwilling to use his compositions for financial gain and instead gives away scores to friends. CPO offer a cross-section of his compositions, which echo Ives and Copland. CATALOGUE NR: 7770122 |
