Background: Piotr Anderszewski released his disc in May 2001 of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations. The album release coincided with a film by renowned film-maker Bruno Monsaingeon, the brilliant film maker whose musical profiles of such artists as Glenn Gould, Sviatoslav Richter and Yehudi Menuhin have been universally acclaimed.

As he did with Glenn Gould’s approach to Bach, Monsaingeon here captures Piotr Anderszewski’s analysis of the ever-fascinating 'Diabelli Variations' takes the viewer on a voyage of discovery culminating in a dazzling performance of the entire work. Monsaingeon’s inventive camera work sets new standards for filmed keyboard performances. The film is divided into two parts: the first part shows the time and preparation it takes for Piotr Anderszewski to execute the Diabelli Variations; the second half of the movie is the full performance of the piece.
