Background: Recorded over the course of three month in 1962, 'Coltrane' was John Coltrane'sthird album for Impulse, but his first for the label with his regular working group. The first disc in this deluxe reissue consists of the album as originally released and the second a wealth of extra material.

Included on the second disc are previously unreleased alternative takes of 'Tunji' and one previously unreleased piece, 'Not Yet'. All the music on both discs has been remastered by the original engineer, Rudy van Gelder, using better tape sources than any previous edition.
