Background: It is perhaps not surprising that with the immense popularity of his orchestral works one tends to forget what an important part the piano played in the life of Igor Stravinsky. His very first work was for the piano, and in his last it accompanied a soprano in a setting of Edward Lear’s Owl and the Pussy-Cat. The composer also used the piano as an orchestral instrument in a number of his works, notably the ballet Petrushka. |
