Composer:
Ludwig van Beethoven

Conductor:
Carlo Maria Giulini

Background: The two orchestras with whom Carlo Maria Giulini forged the greatest relationships were the Philharmonia and the Chicago Symphony. This 4CD set contains all the solo orchestral recordings he made for EMI with the Chicago Symphony between October 1969 and December 1976.

The 32-page booklet has notes by Jon Tolansky, who makes use of material from interviews he conducted with Giulini and the Chicago orchestral players. From them it is clear that this was no ordinary artistic relationship but one of deep mutual love and respect that led to performances of the highest standards in dedicated professionalism and inspired musicianship.
