Background: Here are some chamber recordings from early tape. Sir Peter Pears's 1952 recordings of Boyhood's End and The Heart’s Assurance originally appeared on the Argo label; they are complemented by the miniature Songs for Ariel. The Amadeus Quartet's 1954 recording of the Second String Quartet catches the ensemble in peak form; the CD preserves the original LP coupling: the Quartetto lirico of Mátyás Seiber.
