Background: The whole of 19th-century Europe, from Vienna to Paris and London to St Petersburg, danced to the swirling rhythm of the waltz. Descended from the rustic Ländler beloved of Schubert and Beethoven; denounced by the clergy for its tumultuous, lascivious, licentious - even dangerous - moves, the waltz conquered the entire world.

It is this wonderful atmosphere Felicity Lott takes us into with these great operetta arias by Strauss, Lehár, Messager and Offenbach. This album is a reissue of a recital originally released on the French label Aria Music.
